Chiropractic & Pregnancy
Chiropractic care is not only safe during any term of pregnancy, but is recommended!
Chiropractic care focuses on balancing the pelvis during pregnancy. Having a balanced pelvis means the joints are aligned and moving properly, muscle tension is removed, uterine ligament tension is removed, and nerve irritation is removed.
The benefits of a balanced pelvis during pregnancy include:
-A more comfortable pregnancy with less pain and discomfort.
-More mobility in the pelvis to allow the baby to move, and to allow for an easier birth.
-Overall improved health when irritation is removed from the nervous system, which controls all vital organ systems.
-Optimization of the muscular, skeletal, and nervous system may decrease the potential for unnecessary birthing intervention.
Chiropractors who are certified in the Webster Technique have completed additional training in the care of pregnant women. The Webster Technique uses gentle chiropractic adjustments as well as muscle and ligament work with purposes of balancing the pelvis.
Some women treated with the Webster technique have observed their babies turn from a breech position to the optimal birthing position, therefore allowing a natural birth versus a cesarean birth. As chiropractors we do not practice obstetrics or “turning of babies,” but we simply balance the pelvis, remove nervous system irritation, and watch the body heal itself!
